Rainy Season and Drainage

Rainy Season and Drainage

There is a true love/hate relationship in our industry when rainy season hits.  On one hand, the water is a welcome sight for our re-emerging lawns and a great quencher for all of our thirsty trees and shrubs.  On the other, the scourge of the wet season – all of our drainage problems proudly display their claims on our property.  As much as it is a nuisance, it also presents you (the homeowner) with the perfect opportunities to locate any trouble spots and put a preventative plan in to action.  What should you be looking for?  First, you should look to areas where everything is working correctly.  You might see a stream of water that is nicely flowing through your property to the edge where it shoots toward a street drain.  You might have already put in a drainage system to alleviate previous water issues so make sure everything is working correctly with its components.  Secondly, seek out those bad areas.  They could be low spots that like to hold water for days after a storm or poorly graded areas that direct water back to your home’s foundation.  Generally, every house has some sort of drainage problem waiting to present itself.  If any corrective action is something to big for your capable hands be sure to contact someone with expertise in the subject – ideally, you would have them come when they can see the issues (while it’s raining or soon after).  Bold Outdoors would be happy to help you with your drainage problems.  Feel free to contact us.
